TOWNE LAKE HILLS

Played here for my golf league tournament and the course was in decent shape.
The staff seemed a little overwhelmed by the tourney, and the clubhouse was
closed
when we finished, so
we had to do our prizes outside.
I think the closing hole is just okay and
probably won't be my first choice of courses in the Woodstock area.

Very nice course with good deal of variation from hole to hole.
Long par 4's average par 5's, doglegs and good bunker placement make for a challenge approaching
the greens.
Played in
about 4 hours and marshals kept slow players up to speed. Regular rate is bit high for the weekends.
My only complaint is if you don't have a 4some you will get
paired up even on weekdays.
It has happened to me all 4 times I have played with a 2some.

I played Towne Lake Hills Friday afternoon 7/3/09. Got me on the posted rate of 48.00.
This course plays 6784 from the tips (gold) but is a very fair test off the tee.
I recommend hitting 3 wood on the front nine on most holes if you hit more than
260-270 with your driver,
as some of the fairways are narrow and give you very generous downhill roll off
the tee.
For example, par 5 #2 goes for 534 from the tips but is quite reachable
in 2 for many guys if
you get the fairway roll on your tee shot.
Overall I think the back nine plays a few strokes easier than the front. I think
the landing areas are a bit wider and the greens are more accessible.
The
longest par 4 on the course is on
#13 at 457 but gives you a downhill tee shot with plenty of fairway roll.
The greens are a bit slow likely due to keeping the grass somewhat longer this
time of year.
These greens are obviously getting a lot of play as the ball marks
/ repair spots are
everywhere on the greens.
Perhaps ball marks are being left unrepaired too often
on this course. Longer putts tend to take a very bumpy run on the way to the
hole.
Bunkers are very well maintained with a minimum of well placed bunkers on this
course overall.
Unlike some courses, bunkers are placed to affect you club
selection and landing areas,
not so much for decoration.
Practice areas at Towne Lake are quite nice compared to most courses.
Grass
tees, pitching area, chipping area, putting area are all well maintained.
Overall I enjoyed this course and will be back as soon.

Played here on 6/27/09 and the course was in great shape.
We were running a
little behind so we didn't get a chance to check out the clubhouse, but it
seemed nice.
Looked like they
have a full menu available if your hungry at the turn.
The course was made up of rolling hills, which leaves you with blind tee and
approach shots.
It definitely increases the difficulty. The greens and fairways
are in great shape.
The rough
can really penalize you, so it makes you think before hitting.
It was a great value. Looking forward to going to
back.

I played this course on Sunday, June 14th. It was right after the Member Guest
so I'm assuming the course was in the best shape it could possibly be in.
This
was my first time playing
here and although we had a good time and the course was in good shape, I don't
know how often I will go back.
The fact that I live about an hour away will have
something to do with
that but I have played much better courses in the area.
I was not a big fan of
the overall design of the course. They have some good holes but they also have
some weird holes.
18 is a
poorly designed finishing hole. I cant even recall the numbers on a few of the
holes because
now that it has been over a week I don't really remember anything
that just blew me away
about it.
The prices at the Grill were ridiculous. A hot dog and a soft drink is
going to cost you over 5 bucks.
The greens rolled pretty good but I don't think
they will be cut very low the
remainder of the summer but we were lucky to play them the day after the member
guest.
I would recommend you play this course if you get a really good deal on
it.
If not, pay your 55
bucks to play somewhere else in the area.
If this place was priced from the low
30's to low 40's it would be a much better value.

Played on Friday June 19, enjoyed the round because the fairways and greens are
in good shape.
We played pretty quickly. It is in better shape than about a
month ago.

I played Towne Lake Hills for the first time on 6/19.
The staff treats you well,
and the course was in very good condition other than some worn teeing grounds.
However, the course
layout is rather pedestrian, especially when you consider how far you have to
travel between some holes
-- a problem many residential courses have.
You won't
regret not traveling a few
miles further north to Bridgemill, Bradshaw Farm, or Woodmont once you're on the
course,
but you won't remember too much of your round at Towne Lake Hills after
you drive home.
It's a perfectly serviceable place to play, but don't expect an experience
you'll never forget.

Played TL on 6/13 and it's in very good overall condition.
Altho its not my
favorite layout, the greens putted true, and the fairways and tee boxes were
commendable.
Weekend rates are a
bit pricey.

Played Towne Lake on June 13. The course is in really good shape.
The fairways
are excellent and the greens are in very good shape as well.
Golfers need to do
a better job of repairing
their ballmarks.
A rain the night before helped the greens be really receptive.
Driving the ball well is a requirement on most holes with a few having
exceptionally large landing areas.
A
couple Par 5's have blind tee shots which I am not very fond of, but I always
enjoy playing here.
Practice facility is quite good as well, so arrive for your
tee time early, hit some balls and
work on your short game.

I must say that I was very impressed by Town Lake on May 31st.
The
Marshal/starter did a good job of keeping the pace on a Saturday morning without
being pushy
(one person in our
group of 3 was running up to the tee box at our tee time and they let him pay
after the round to save time).
The conditions were great. It was a little soggy
but that was mother natures
fault not the golf course.
The layout is great. Every golf hole has its own look
to it. Every Arthur Hills course I've played has been impressive as far as
layout is concerned.
Greens were
putting true and fast, but at a reasonable speed. The price is perfect for the
quality of the course.
If I had to give one complaint it would be that they
don't make tee times for singles,
even if there is a group of two or three that you can join.
I would probably
play here 3 or 4 times a month if they would change that policy.
Anyway, I will
be back quite often (at least
when I have a group of 2 or more to make a tee time with).
