Played on a Sunday morning. Great staff, and really nice course.
Tough greens, lots of elevation changes, which make club selection fun and challenging.
Tee boxes have been re-done on some holes, all are nice and smooth, and level.
Fairways are in good shape. Some thing spots, but it's rare. They give up some good roll out, with plenty of side hill and down hill lies.
Green were in good shape. They punched the green on 9-10-09, and top dressed them. They ran surprisingly well considering they were punched and sandy. I was impressed.
No cart girl on Sunday, but made it through with just water. Pace of play is generally okay. Maybe crowded 1 out of 4 times your there, where you are waiting to tee off on several holes.
Very fun and challenging course, and one of the better kept ones for the 'Atlanta area', considering it's about an hour away from downtown. One of the better values around!

Played here for the 1st time today and thought it was a great value.
The course is in great shape and the price is really nice.
I didn't feel a lot of love from the staff, but that was easier to deal with than a course in bad shape.
I agree that 18 is a little different, but not difficult.
Once again living in the Marietta area and being able to play such a nice course for $45
and only a 45 min drive is very nice.

Played here today for the first time. The course layout is great and was very challenging but fun.
The greens were in very good condition and the fairways were excellent.
The only drawback I found was with a few of the tee boxes. A couple were thin and some had many divots that players had not bothered to fill.
Some of the sand traps looked like they had not been raked today but that was minor since I avoided them.
The cart girl was by twice and the clubhouse staff was very courteous.
A great value. I will try to play again soon.

I played The Lion this afternoon (Sunday, 6-29-09), and had a great time, as always.
The course is in great shape with the exception of a couple of tee boxes that are being repaired.
No worries though, it won't interfere with your game.
I love the layout here... challenging all the way through. There's not a bad hole on the course, in my opinion.
I really like the staff here as well. They are very friendly and down-to-earth, which is a huge reason I return.
There's nothing worse than paying your hard-earned money for a round of golf,
and getting to the course only to find people running it, who feel it is their duty to make their customers feel like second class citizens.
All in all, this is a beautiful course that's well maintained, and a great value.
You won't be disappointed if you choose to play The Lion,
and you'll leave with a number of great memories that will beckon you back.

Played this past weekend, wasn't extremely busy, but did have a few back-ups on the course.
Clubhouse is nice, but the staff wasn't very friendly at all, the starter wasn't worried about anything but pace of play,
and harped on it every time we saw her. Bad and good I guess.
The layout is okay. The holes are framed nicely, the lack of houses on the course is nice, and it's relatively well kept.
The lay of the land was nice, however, some of the holes are just plain gimmicky and restrictive, and cause slow play.
The par 3's play very nicely, and are quite fun. The long par 4's are a great challenge, like Hole 11.
I like the graduated cut of grasses, and the fairways were pretty solid.
The green are nice, but slow, and the bunkers need a little work.
Hole 18 is just plain ridiculous.. Slows up the play, and the over growth on the left side,
has you almost blindly attempting to land the green in 2 or, usually 3- if your lucky.
Quite honestly, the worst hole design I've EVER played.
The restaurant is a joke. The staff is completely rude, and has NOTHING already made, or that can be made on short order.
Also, there is NO cart service, although I did see a functioning cart, I never ONCE saw a since person on the course.
No cart service, and no rangers, other than the starter. No coolers allowed, and no drinks/food provided, it's pretty silly.
Other than that, for $40, it's not a bad track to try out. I'd play it more if it wasn't for one or two holes that just make you shake your head,
and the fact the staff doesn't really act like they are happy to have anyone out there.
It's a good value however, if your just looking for almost 18 good holes of golf,
on a course that isn't torn up by the masses.

They are running a $30 special during the week here right now and this is a steal at that price.
Played after work this week and got through 18 in a little over 2 hours (played by myself and only saw one other person during the round).
The pro recommended I start on #10 to avoid any holdups.
Both times I've played I have played it this way which starts you on a par 5 with a slightly blind t-shot.
A little intimidating for the 1st shot of the day but #1 is a straight away par 4 under 400 yds.
As for the course, the fairways are in great condition, the greens are very smooth and it is very easy to spin/stop the ball on them.
#18 is easily one of the most memorable and visually intimidating finishing holes around.
The par 3s are great as are the par 5s with plenty of risk/reward opportunities.
A word of caution, though. If you miss the fairways, you will not find your ball.
Also, if you haven't played there before, I recommend taking a look at the landing areas before you hit your tee shot.
Of course, don't do this if it holds up a group behind you,
but there are many holes if you miss left or right the fairway ends and wayward shots funnel into massive ravines.

Played on 6/7/09 and overall the course was in great condition.
The green were in great shape, rolled true and were receptive to good shots.
They were just a slower than what you would expect given the shape they are in.
There were a couple of tee boxes that could use a little work, but overall they too were in good condition.
Our group played in 5 hours, but there was no one behind us and no one in front of us the whole day.
I suspect that we were a slower group and you can probably get around in 4 to 4
1/2 hours on a Sunday morning.
The drive from Atlanta was worth it and I would certainly play here again in the near future.
