LANE CREEK

Played here on July 21. Course itself is in very good shape.
The greens are in good shape, BUT, EXTREMELY FAST!!! On several holes today, the pin placements were almost unfair.
Several were on the sides of slopes which were almost impossible to make regardless of the angle in which you approached the pin.
No question, the FASTEST GREENS I HAVE PLAYED ON THIS SUMMER.
As far as the roll, pretty true, you just have to get a feel for the speed which is challenging.
Clubhouse staff is OUTSTANDING! Very accommodating! They have a great chicken salad sandwich!
Overall, a good course. The rate was ok. Pace moved ok for a busy day.

Used to play this course all the time.
Played on July 13th, first time in years, after hearing the course was back in great shape.
Well I agree. The course was great.
They had changed a few holes from when I used to play it, which made it very exciting.
Greens rolled true and were of moderate-fast pace. Hard to beat.

Got a fantastic deal with cart and a bucket of balls.
I completed the round in 3 hours and 20 minutes..
.was only slowed down a little by a foursome that was playing in some kind of a competition.
Caught up with part of their group at #9 and they let me play through.
Left a club at one of the greens and a group behind me picked it up and returned it...nice.
As for the course, the crew was out doing maintenance (mowing, landscaping, watering), so they obviously care and are trying to keep it in good shape.
It's a tough go right now though as they are not getting enough rain.
The greens are pretty sandy and hard. You won't get much (if any) bite, especially if you come in fast and low.
I felt like the overall condition has suffered a little over the past week from lack of water,
and the greens aren't growing fast enough to displace the sand.
You won't find a lot of color out there (other than green), but there is variety in the form of ponds and hills.
I still like the course, because it is close to my home, the service is great, and the value (what you get for your dollars) is very good.
Fairways are in pretty good shape...better than some of the courses I played this past June in Arizona,
and MUCH better than some other local courses that my friends refer to as "cow patty pastures" ,
where you are playing off of the dirt.

Walked course on Wednesday, July 18th, 2009.
I understand that they had been struggling with not having enough rain,
but when I played, they had had rain the previous day, so the fairways looked and played pretty well.
Greens weren't too bad given the near drought conditions but just a hair sandy...maybe from aeration in June, I don’t know.
The only slight irritation I had was probably coincidence. I dodged the mower on a couple of holes…when I finished with a hole,
so did the mower and he would move on to the same fairway I was headed to.
I also had to shoot onto a par 3 that one of the guys was rolling.
Don’t get me wrong, they were polite and stopped their machines while I hit,
but I was looking for more of a peaceful round without the engines running,
but as I say, probably just my bad luck that I picked the same time that they needed to work…grass has to be cut after all.
This is the only reason I didn’t give them a 5 star as the guy behind the counter was friendly and accommodating.
By the way, nothing wrong with the clubhouse…it's average which is okay in my book.
Overall the value is excellent and nearly unbeatable.

Everything was fine until reaching 1st green. No grass just sand. It was that way for almost 95 % of the course.
Have played here many times and this is the worst.
They had been working on problem, but I did not see any green that looked like it had been watered for at least a couple of days.
Suggest that wait for 2/3 weeks and try again, because it is such a great course and excellent value.

This is a great course for the money. The greens are in really good shape, rolling true every time.

Played on June 4th in horrible weather conditions and the greens were still fast and true and in the best condition I have ever seen them in.
I grew up near the course and have probably played it @ least 3 dozen or so times.
Great value for the money, just wish they had a better selection of food and drinks when you make your turn.

I always have a great time playing this course.
The staff are always extremely welcoming and this place is very reasonable regarding price-
I think we ended up saving around $20 last time we booked this course in advance-also got free range balls.
Practice facility is good enough, you will find plenty of nice grass to hit off however it is tough to gauge distances
so unless you know what your distance looks like on each club when you hit normally don't expect to get a good read.
The putting green is awesome-plenty of space although not too much undulation compared to the greens you will face on the course.
There is also a nice little chipping area that NO ONE ever uses.
As for the course it's a low handicapper's dream if you want to score well-however you will not find it too challenging.
But that being said this course does offer some great opportunities to fine tune how you work the ball as a few holes set up for draw/fade bias.
The fairways are usually in great shape and the greens are nice.
I will say sometimes those greens can be a bit firm...so biting the ball becomes tough however what you lose in check you make up for in roll on your putts.
The great thing about this course is it's playability for every level-I never lose pace
playing with friends who shoot in the 90's on this course simply because it does have a little for every skill level.
There are also some beautiful views.
Hole # 15 is gorgeous standing at the tee box and after the frustration you normally feel from the green on #14(short par 4) it's a nice view to calm your nerves.
The course can be a tad slow-but remember this isn't a course that was built for 8 tee times a day so that the members don't run into anyone.
..this is a course for everyone, including those of us who don't like to lose pace and often blame an
errant tee shot on the "group that took half a danged hour to clear the fairway".
Anyways I suggest going anytime you are in Athens-also this place is a great place to hold a corporate outing or tournament.
I only gave the course layout 3 stars simply because some of the holes do lack a bit of imagination.

Played this course yesterday and the course was in GREAT shape.
Fairways are looking excellent, greens are rolling very true.
The sand traps as always are FIRST CLASS, plenty of sand, always raked, and turned and add a real challenge to any round here.
Practice facilities are first class, along with a great staff.
Butch and his team are quickly making this facility into one of the top courses in the Atlanta area.
We did played behind a foursome yesterday for 11 holes that was beyond slow!
As a (semi-senior) I understand we slow down a little with age, but 3 hours for the front nine is a just off the pace.
Butch finally got to them on the 12th hole and we got through and things were fine after that, it was WIDE OPEN.
This is ONLY fault I have about this place is (SOMETIMES, not to often, it gets slow). but the staff once advised gets things going.
Take the drive out and play here, and like me I am sure you will be back often and it is only getting better by the day.

I've played this course a couple of times recently and enjoyed each experience!
The greens have been great every time and the staff is always nice.
Course layout can be a bit odd if you've never played here before, but I feel the overall value is well worth it.
I will be going again and again.
