THE FROG

Played on the 14th. The course layout is beautiful and the fairways are in
wonderful shape.
I can confirm what the other reviewers wrote in that there are
a lot of unrepaired divots on the
greens.
I believe management can do something about it by reminding players to
repair their ball marks (for those that need reminding) at the pro shop and again
by the starter.
Other
than that, the greens rolled true and fair. My only real complaint was the
condition of the sand traps.
They were in horrible condition with deep foot
prints in some areas and cement hard in others.
It appeared they had not been raked or repaired for a week. Fix the
traps and I'll be back.

I played 36 holes at "the Frog" this past Saturday, 11 July 2009.
I don't think
we need to worry about Canongate's commitment to the quality of play at "the
Frog". I firmly believe the Frog
is in better shape now, than during the last year of Marriott's ownership.
It was starting to look shabby last year, but Canongate seems to have
re-invested in some good staff and re-committed to keeping the course in near
perfect condition
...We just gotta get
our fellow golfers to repair their ball marks. come on guys, you can do it!!!
The value is amazing...no matter what you pay.
This Fazio course is simply a gem! We played from one off the tips and even thou
this was far better than my handicap allows,
I STILL had a blast and enjoyed the
round.
Fairways are in spectacular shape.
Greens are almost perfect...the only complaint is the inability of some of us to
repair our ball marks.
The Frog is one of the few courses that I've been to lately that actually HAD a
ranger on the field and a starter at #1.
The ranger did a great job of moving
folks along.
If you make a tee time at the Frog, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
tips:
• watch the slope of the fairways and play them properly. you WILL get a LOT of
roll.
• assume the greens will be quick.
• "risk/reward" is spot-on.
• try to drive the green on #6.
• #8 is great! stay right. left is dead.

I played the Frog on 6/30/09 and paid $35, Canongate member-guest fee.
The
layout is great, but the condition is not quite as fine as my last visit two
years ago
(just some small
details that don't really affect play).
The greens were medium speed and in good
shape. For some reason nobody repairs their divots????...
.. many of the greens
had 20 - 30 unrepaired
ball marks. That's no fault of the course owner.
Be sure to practice your sand
game before you play. There are tons of sand traps in the fairways and around
the greens.
The sand traps
are well maintained and make you think before each shot.
Overall, the course is
in good shape and I recommend you give it a try.

The greens had just been vented, but rolled very true.
The course was in very
good shape.
Played on Sunday afternoon and no beverage cart

In my opinion, The Frog and Cobblestone are the two best public courses in the
Atlanta metro area (if you call Villa Rica and Acworth "metro")...
Played at the Frog from the Gold's on 6/3/09 and the course was in fabulous
condition, with no real signs of Canongate's perceived negative reputation (yet,
at least).
Greens are about as true as any I have played and the Fazio design leaves you
wanting more.
Such a wonderful, unique combo of forgiving fairways yet
challenging approach shots that
can easily turn into trouble given Fazio's love for well protected, dome greens.
Course was busy but still finished in 4:20 thanks to starters pushing along
everyone at a comfortable pace.
Cart girl was around 5 or 6 times keeping
everyone happy.
This course is truly a gem with some great holes, particularly on the back.
If
you golf and you live in Georgia, you need to play The Frog.

Far and away my favorite course within driving distance.
The greens are always superb, the layout fair: both challenging, rewarding and
punishing simultaneously providing an enjoyable experience.
It will tempt you to do a few foolish things but will reward you nonetheless.
Definitely worth the drive.
I too am worried about Canongate, but it still seems to be an excellent course.
Another great thing about a great design: you can play it the day after an inch
of rain. It drains so well that its seldom soggy.
I'd play it every day if I could. I've played nearly every great course in the
Atlanta area and the Frog is my favorite
(more than East Lake, Cap City, or
Atlanta Athletic Club). But that's just
me.
