BRASSTOWN VALLEY

Course has greened up and greens are running nice now.
Weather was not kind to this course for beginning of summer but has since given fairways a chance to green up.

I made the 107 mile, 2-1/2 hour trip from East Gwinnett County to Brasstown Valley Resort on Saturday, June 20th to make my 12:56 PM tee time.
I booked as a single and was paired with another single at the course.
Having read numerous glowing reports here about this course, I was really expecting spectacular vistas,
significant elevation changes and a meticulously groomed course.
Although this is indeed a very nice and challenging course, it left me just a little disappointed.
The big elevation change is from the first tee down to the first fairway, then up to the green,
after which the course flattens out to where “rolling” would best describe it.
Not a big deal, but a little different than I had expected from a “Georgia Mountain Course”.
It plays very fairly, and for the most part, you are able to see all the hazards and landing areas in front of you.
From the second hole on, you can see three or four other holes around you from just about wherever you are on the course.
A number of sizeable lakes/ponds come into play on half dozen or eight holes.
But the fairways are plenty wide if you play from the appropriate tee box.
Confirming previous reports, a good number of the fairways have been damaged by a combination of too much water and heat.
There are dead to almost bare spots to contend with, and your lie in the fairways will be just average overall.
Time and maintenance will cure this.
There are a lot of bunkers on this course, placed strategically to catch the off-line tee shot or approach to the green.
I found that the sand was inconsistent from bunker to bunker, some sand being soft, fluffy and deep, while other bunkers had shallow compacted sand.
None were unplayable, but you need to be mindful of the depth and texture.
The tee boxes were in good shape, and the greens were generally quite large, and consistently in excellent condition.
Range balls are included, though it’s a “mats only” range. Plenty good for warming up.
My three star rating for Overall Condition is due to the fairways and bunkers.
My three star Value rating is only because, for me, it’s 5 hours and half tank of gas round trip.
I pass a lot of very nice courses on the way to Brasstown Valley. But, I'm sure I'll be back.

Love this course. Played 36 today and had a blast.
Greens rolled great. Layout is wonderful. Could probably play tips.
Says it is 7100 but may play shorter. Will definitely be back when I'm
ready to drive 2 hours. Very relaxing environment.

Played on a Saturday afternoon. Pace of play was a little slow - 5+ hours for 18 holes.
The marshal didn't seem too concerned with speeding up play. Greens were excellent and fast;
Fairways were a bit rough, probably due to all the rain.
At the LMG last minute rate - excellent value.
I will play there again. Definitely a challenge.

Played 6/3 & 6/4. I agree with previous writer. Greens in good shape and some fairways are hurting.
Overall, great course for the money. I played in afternoon, no one there.
